Mammoth Block

Unique materials for knives with a history.

Uniqueness of the material

Each block made from mammoth molar or tusk is unique and has its own distinctive texture.

The texture of each block is unique, just as there have never been two genetically identical animals in nature.

Info-icon

The texture of the material in most cases depends on the chosen cutting, the age of the paleontological animal, its habitat, gender, and geological conditions.

Info-icon

Understanding what texture a block will have is only possible after cutting the raw material. Blocks with the most characteristic pattern as well as various variations of texture projections are encountered.

Color

Color and intensity of the color largely depend on where the mammoth tooth was found.

We have defined three basic colors for our blocks plus one natural one.

Blue

We usually aim for a medium intensity of color for the blocks, but we are confident that both lighter and darker - dense colors can be appealing.

Sizes

The sizes of the blocks directly depend on the age of the mammoth. The older it is, the larger the block can be.

We conditionally distinguish 5 sizes of length for the blocks. Starting from the micro size (up to 20mm in length) to specially made blocks from the largest teeth.

The micro size is perfect for spacers, small and medium - for combined handles. The larger sizes can completely cover the length of the handle.

Info-icon

It is not so common to use the huge size in a knife, as well as to manufacture it. We are ready to consider requests for its production in individual inquiries.

With a special order, the sizes in width and thickness can be redefined by the customer.

Cutting

We offer two main types of cutting.

Crosscut

The cut goes across the tooth growth vector and forms a characteristic, wavy pattern.

Longitudinal

The cut goes along the tooth growth vector, and the pattern becomes less predictable.

Info-icon

Most blocks for sale are blocks with crosscutting. To stand out, choose blocks with longitudinal cutting.

Although there is not a big difference in strength between the two types of cutting, it has happened that the block fracture was along the calcium plate.
